Sponsoring Parents or Grandparents

Who is eligible to sponsor a parent or grandparent?
  • At least 18 years old
  • Live in Canada
  • A Canadian citizen, a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act or a permanent resident,
  • Enough money to support the persons you want to sponsor( provide a proof of income)
  • Meet the minimum necessary income for each of the 3 taxation years before the date of your application
  • Meet the amounts outlined in the minimum necessary income from the date on which IRCC receives your sponsorship application until the day your family members become permanent residents of Canada
The following table shows the minimum necessary income( the low income Cu-offs plus 30%) based on the number of family members from 2015-2019.

The process of sponsoring a parents or grandparents

  1. Fill out the interest to sponsor
  2. Get the invitations to submit a complete application
  3. Prepare documents, pay application fee and submit the application
  4. Provide the medical exam, police certificate during process
  5. Final decision of your application
